Tapping the Diversity of Rural Locales
... The Startup Village Entrepreneurship Programme
Tapping the potential of diverse rural economic activities before farm-based activities, and
thus empowering local communities are essential for inducing balanced growth of rural
economies. Startup Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP), the sub-scheme under
Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) of the
Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India is a unique initiative aimed at helping
Self Help Groups (SHGs) set up small enterprises in the non-farm sector.

Some highlights over December 2024 -January 2025
EDII, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihood Missions (JKRLM),
conducted a four-day Specialized Training-cum-Workshop for Community Resource
Persons - Enterprise Promotion (CRP-EPs) during January 18-21, 2025. The workshop
trained 29 CRP-EPs (22 women and 7 men) and four JKRLM coordinators. The participants
were equipped with knowledge and skills to promote and sustain rural enterprises. The
workshop also focused on key aspects of micro-entrepreneurship development.
Participants gained practical insights through visits to Lilapur Craft Cluster, where they
observed traditional craft practices.
On January 16th, 2025, Hon'ble Chief Minister of J&K, Mr. Omar Abdullah, inaugurated the
programme from the Convocation Center in Jammu. In his address, he highlighted the
importance of women's financial independence, emphasizing its role in empowering individuals
and families and driving societal progress.
