Tourism and Hospitality
The breath-taking landscapes of Northeast India are home to rich heritage sites, ethnic
tribal cultures and stunning natural beauty—from the pristine hills of Mizoram to the
serene lakes of Sikkim. The tourism sector has seen a growth due to growing interest among
both domestic and international travellers seeking offbeat experiences. Entrepreneurs can
tap into eco-tourism initiatives that promote responsible travel while preserving local
culture and environment.
Handicrafts and Handlooms
Northeast India is known for its exquisite handicrafts and handloom products that reflect its
indigenous cultures—be it bamboo crafts from Assam and Tripura or traditional textiles
from Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. The endemic silk variety from the region elevate the
handloom sector manifold in terms of market acquisition. Entrepreneurs can build
businesses around these unique art forms.
Information Technology (IT) & Startups
With increasing internet penetration rates across Northeast states, there's significant
potential for IT-related startups focusing on software development, mobile applications
tailored to local needs (like agriculture tech), e-commerce solutions promoting regional
handicrafts/products online and even digital marketing agencies serving small businesses
aiming at a wider audience. Furthermore, the region could benefit from tech incubators and
accelerators as well.
Renewable Energy Sector
With abundance of natural resources such as rivers, sunlight and biomass, Northeast India
holds significance in the renewable energy sector. Entrepreneurs can explore ventures in
solar power generation, and biomass energy production to meet local energy sustainably.
