Reviving Gujarat's Heritage Crafts:
The Impact of Hastkala Setu Yojana
Hastkala Setu Yojana is Gujarat's window to the world, showcasing a wide range of
authentic handlooms and handicrafts. This transformative initiative is dedicated to
empowering artisans and entrepreneurs across the vibrant districts of Gujarat, reviving
languishing crafts and strengthening the rural economy. In collaboration with EDII as a
knowledge and implementation partner, the Commissionerate of Cottage & Rural
Industries, Government of Gujarat, has played a key role in empowering artisans across all
districts of Gujarat. Till Now, 8966 artisans have been trained under the domain-based Skill
Training programmes. In last two months, 45 entrepreneurs enrolled in Hastkala Setu
Yojana , thus taking the total number of enrolled artisans to 21689.
Over the last two months, three domain training programmes were held in Morbi, Botad,
and Surat, focusing on hand embroidery and terracotta. Alongside these, artisans
participated in three different exhibitions: the Prayagraj Exhibition, Panch Mahotsav, and
the IDCO Exhibition.
Mr. Vajirbhai Kotvaliya, a bamboo craft artisan, showcased his incredible craftsmanship at the
IDCO Exhibition Ground, Unit-3, Bhubaneswar from 5th to 16th January 2025.
