                          Bridging Gaps; Empowering Women

                          Project Swavalambane

Indian society has been intensely stratified, tantamounting to lop-sided economic
opportunities for different segments. Women have by far had less opportunities in mainly
non-farm/non-agri business sector. Project Swavalambane, being implemented by EDII seeks
to address this by empowering and building skills and competencies of 150 rural women
entrepreneurs across 26 districts of Karnataka. The project focuses on women in non-
farm/non-agri businesses, equipping them with essential skills such as business
management, marketing, and financial literacy. This initiative has been launched by NSRCEL,
the business incubator at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), in
collaboration with Sanjeevini – Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (KSRLPS),
and supported by the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).

From 5-8 June, 2024, NSRCEL hosted two bootcamps at the Don Bosco Skill Mission in
Bengaluru, focusing on training rural women entrepreneurs in branding, marketing, and skill
building. The institute played a vital role in organizing and executing the event, ensuring a
rewarding learning experience for all participants. A Retailers Meet was also facilitated as a
part of this training which generated sales of Rs. 1,50,000 in a day. Over last two months,
around 49 founders have been registered under Udyam and Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED).
