Transforming Clusters, Economically
...The National Rural Transformation Project
To promote the growth of clusters in agricultural as well as non-agricultural sectors, the
Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, launched the National Rural
Economic Transformation Project (NRETP). The NRETP's cluster development component
specifically focuses on supporting artisan-based cluster development. EDII has been
appointed as the Technical Support Agency (TSA) to provide technical assistance to these
artisan clusters. With this Mandate, EDII collaborates with various State Rural Livelihood
Missions (SRLMs), offering expertise and guidance to facilitate the growth and
development of artisan clusters across the participating states. The last two months have
been fruitful in terms of outcome-based activities undertaken:
Two craft cluster projects were sanctioned wherein
EDII will function as Technical Support Agency.
These clusters include - Dausa Cluster (Jutti) in
Rajasthan and the Latur Cluster (Bamboo) in
Maharashtra. With the inclusion of these two new
clusters, EDII's presence now extends to six craft
clusters under the Programme.

Inauguration of Kolhapuri Chappal Cluster Stall at Kolhapur Railway Station
The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department of Maharashtra State Livelihoods
Mission launched a marketing initiative for the much-acclaimed Kolhapuri Chappals. A
cluster stall was inaugurated at the Kolhapur Railway Station on September 2, 2024. This
initiative is part of the One District One Product (ODOP) and One Station One Product
(OSOP) schemes, aligning with the Government of India's 'Vocal for Local' vision.
Inauguration was marked by the presence of

Hon'ble Minister of Medical Education,
Maharashtra; ( 6th from L) Shri Karthikeyan S.,
Zilla Panchayat CEO, and (1st from L) Ms.
Sushma Desai, Project Director of the District
Rural Development Agency. Also present were
Kolhapuri Chappal Cluster Board of Directors
(BODs) and Office Bearers.
EDII conducted scoping studies under NRLM-CDP for Chain Stitch Cluster, Gurdaspur, Phulkari
Cluster, Patiala and Wooden Craft Cluster, Hoshiarpur to assess the potential of the clusters and
thechallenges that these faces. The study came up with recommendations to improve productivity,
market access, efficiency and the ability to innovate.
Skilled Artisans from the Dahod Pottery Cluster
participated in the PM Vishwakarna Exhibition cum
Trade Fair organized by the Ministry of MSME, at
Vastrapur Hatt, Ahmedabad. Shri Umesh Bhai Rathore,
an artisan from the cluster, showcased a innovative
range of pottery products during the three-day event.
The artisans witnessed commendable sale.
