Previously, he served as the Director of the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. With over 23 years of experience in both corporate and academic settings, Dr. Sharma has been actively involved in shaping and implementing various skill development and entrepreneurship development policies of the Government of India. He has successfully executed numerous initiatives across different ministries, focusing on skill development, entrepreneurship, livelihood enhancement, cluster development, and startup promotion. This includes schemes like SWAVLAMBINI, PMJVM, PMKVY 4.0, and PM Vishwakarma, among others.

Dr. Sharma has played a pivotal role in empowering large number of tribal women in the North Eastern Region of India by facilitating self-employment and livelihood opportunities. He has been actively involved in development of Common Facility Centers under various Cluster Development Programmes of Government of India like SFURTI & MSE-CDP. He has mentored and supported hundreds of micro and small entrepreneurs, established and nurtured numerous Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and mobilized skill training for a large number of youth, fostering the growth of skill-based entrepreneurs. Additionally, he has been instrumental in setting up Entrepreneurship Development Centers in government ITIs and various universities and colleges in the North East Region. His contributions also extend to the development of Startup Incubation Centers and Livelihood Business Incubation Centers in various parts of the country.
