“Life settled, but dreams not,” Uma’s words reflecting her drive to achieve more. A 12th-pass graduate married to a government servant, Uma’s life was going easy, but burning desire to become a successful entrepreneur made her restless every day. Before her marriage, she attempted twice to start a business but couldn’t succeed. She possessed potential, but lacked direction.
A Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme under the UDAYA Project in Karanjade, Raigad district, proved to be the turning point. Uma seized the opportunity. The programme addressed her business knowledge gaps, covering project finalization, financial viability, accounting, product development, and marketing. It was a game-changer.
Through detailed market research, Uma decided to establish a “Vegetable & Fruits Dehydrated Product Manufacturing” enterprise. The EDII team assisted her in identifying technology, securing funding, and developing a product branding strategy.
With a Rs. 13 lakh investment, including Rs. 10 lakh from Bank of India, Kharghar, under the Chief Minister Employment Generation Programme (CMEGP) scheme and ₹3 lakh of her own, Uma launched her business. Employing one person, she now earns ₹50,000 per month.
“This journey wasn’t easy,” Uma acknowledged. “Breaking the entry barrier was the most challenging task. Thanks to the EDII team for making it easier.” Uma now envisions building a national brand in dehydrated products, her entrepreneurial dream finally taking flight.
