Sangita Prabhakar Sonwane, from Jaykheda, Nashik, faced hardship after her husband’s death. Sangita manages her household and raises her two sons. Despite completing her grade 12 and an ITI course, she needed a sustainable income. She joined Micro Skillpreneurship Development Programme (MSDP), where she learnt spice production, marketing, and packaging proved pivotal.

Sangita formed “New Star Kanak Masale,” a Self-Help Group (SHG) with seven Persons with Disabilities members. With a combined capital of Rs. 1,00,000 they invested in machinery and raw materials. Sangita leads the processing unit, producing ten types of spices, including popular blends like Paneer, Biryani and Chicken Masala, and four types of in-demand premixes, such as Sambar, Shengule and Dal-Bati.

Driven by ambition, Sangita is exploring expansion through the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme and has already met with the District Resource Person. She’s also targeting larger markets like Nashik, Pune, and Mumbai, establishing a distribution network with four agents. “New Star Kanak Masale” now boasts an impressive annual turnover of Rs. 2,10,000, a testament to Sangita’s resilience. Her story is one of empowerment and success through skill development and determination.
