Mrs. Vinitha, from a financially challenged family and studied till 9th grade. Her husband is a weaver, and despite her challenges, she is determined to contribute to her family’s income. Her primary goal is to ensure a better future for her children.

In 2019, Mrs. Vinitha was mobilized through the awareness session conducted by Hand Made in India (HMI) Salem Cluster, where she participated. EDII-HMI has organized a 10-day training programme at Allikuttai for handloom weavers and Master weavers, focused on design development, introducing new designs and also Ari embroidery work. This value-added training enhanced their skills. Mrs. Vinitha further took part in capacity building training on Natural Dying and visited various vibrant clusters as a part of an exposure visit.

Previously, Mrs. Vinitha struggled to meet her basic needs and lacked savings. She aspired to become a micro-entrepreneur but lacked knowledge about credit access and affordable raw materials. With the support of EDII, she secured Rs. 37000 in loan from Self Help Groups (SHGs). The Salem-HMI interventions were transformative, boosting her confidence and equipping her with new skills. She learned to create new designs on sarees and significantly improved her productivity. This knowledge and support enabled her to overcome her previous challenges and progress towards becoming a successful micro-entrepreneur.
