Swathi, hails from a small village near Salem, launched ‘Anbum Arusuvayum’, a micro food processing unit, to support her family. She had successfully started her own business unit to sell millet laddus, idly powder, sambar powder, murukku varieties, payasam mix, dhal powder, millet brownie.
EDII began organizing groups for young rural women, offering them the chance to launch their own businesses through Micro Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programmes (MSDP) focused on food processing and financial independence. This sparked Swathi’s ambition. She discussed the idea with her husband, who was supportive.
After completing the MSDP training, Swathi, with EDII’s guidance, registered her home-based business under Udyam and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). During this programme she learned about various millet products and food processing techniques, credit and market linkages, business operations, digital marketing, branding and packaging.
“This is a fantastic concept,” Swathi emphasized. “It empowers women like me.” Her husband, initially hesitant, is now fully supportive, even thanking EDII and Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) for Project SANKALP. “It feels so good to be secure,” Swathi concluded. Her success story is an inspiration to other women in her community.
