M. Kousalya, from Punjachanallur, Tamil Nadu, faced financial hardship after completing 12th, she was unable to afford further education. She was determined to support her family, who relied solely on her husband’s income. In November 2024, she discovered a free, month-long handmade soap-making training programme offered by EDII and supported by Accenture. She was selected for the training, where she gained in-depth knowledge about soap production and entrepreneurial skills. She also gained practical experience in teamwork, time management, and raw material sourcing. She started Magic Touch Enterprise. EDII connected her with affordable local suppliers, which made the procurement of raw materials both affordable and accessible.
Initially, M. Kousalya faced community skepticism and financial constraints, but she persevered. She started her business with a minimal investment by producing small batches of phenol and natural soaps, promoting products to local shops, supermarkets, and through home delivery services. EDII’s support and mentorship helped her by establishing connections with schools and colleges in Thiruvaiyaru, leading to bulk orders and increased her production capacity. EDII’s continuous guidance in marketing and business strategies was invaluable.
Now, M. Kousalya supplies 140-liter phenol bottles and handmade soaps weekly. Her business provides financial stability and empowerment. She envisions expanding her product range, reaching larger markets and creating employment opportunities for women in her community.
“Now I feel my dream is coming true, and I am very grateful to EDII and Accenture for giving me this opportunity.” – M. Kousalya
