Diptimayee Mohanty, a resident of Nilamadhav Basti, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, spent most of her life as a housewife while her husband ran a small grocery shop earning a modest income of ₹8,000 to ₹9,000 monthly. Struggling with financial limitations, Diptimayee sought ways to contribute to her family’s income, but lacked the direction and confidence.
Her journey changes when she enrolled in an Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme organized by EDII. She participated in the 26-day training programme, where she learned crucial entrepreneurial skills, including business opportunity identification, product design, packaging, marketing strategies, and business development. The training equipped her with practical knowledge and also boosted her confidence.
Diptimayee identified a market gap for quality products with innovative packaging. Her learnings on product design and packaging gave her the foundation to develop unique offerings, which she began marketing to local grocery shops, offices, and local Puja mandaps. With EDII’s support in creating online platforms and linking her with marketing companies helped her further identify and seize business opportunities and EDII also helped her with MSME registration and offering guidance on setting up her unit.
Diptimayee invested ₹17,000 in her business, funding it through personal savings and financial linkages facilitated by EDII. With ambitious plans to grow, Diptimayee aims to achieve a monthly turnover of ₹30,000, secure Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration for business growth. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of skill-building and support in empowering women entrepreneurs.
