Dipika Das, from Tokradia village in Kamrup, has been weaving when she was barely 15 years old. After her husband’s untimely demise, weaving became her only means of livelihood. She initially used to weave traditional handloom produces, which she sold in her locality and through local traders.

Dipika came to know about Project Hand Made in India (HMI) 2020 during the awareness programme conducted in her village in association with EDII.  After joining the HMI project, she received training in modern design, product development, natural dyeing, and blocks printing. She also learned fundamentals of business, and her unit was registered under UDYAM. These efforts enhanced her craftsmanship and also formalized her business operations.

She also participated in the exhibition and trade fairs expanded her market reach. She received orders via phone and personal connections. She embraced the digital world, created social media accounts, and started online sales.

A small loan of Rs. 12,000 enabled her to procure yarn and other necessary accessories. The exhibitions and exposure visit organized by EDII were pivotal. Having never been to any place outside Assam, she was thrilled to explore new places, cities and markets, an experience that broadened her horizons and fueled her entrepreneurial spirit.

Dipika is now expanding her business through online sales. She is an inspiration for women who aspire to break barriers and achieve financial independence.
