From a young age, Vivek aspired to be an entrepreneur. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Commerce (honours) from the Hindu College, Delhi University, he was eager to embark on his entrepreneurial journey. But, at this stage, he was unsure about his business idea and wanted to create his own path rather than join his family business. He enrolled in Post Graduate Diploma in Business Entrepreneurship at EDII. This programme provided him the knowledge and confidence to start his own business.
Although he initially joined his family’s flourishing automobile dealership, Vivek’s ambition was to create something of his own. After a failed SSI Education partnership, he identified an opportunity in shellac trading, a viable business opportunity in West Bengal. This led to the establishment of Chemshel in January 2004. Chemshel’s primary product includes Seedlac, Shellac and Aleuritic acid, which is used in the perfume industry.
Vivek faced numerous challenges, including bureaucratic hurdles, corruption, financial struggles and difficulties in securing skilled labor. However, his determination and strategic approach enabled him to overcome these problems, securing a bank loan and navigating regulatory issues. He also cultivated strong relationship with customer.
Today, The Chemshel emerged as a largest manufacturer of Ambrettolide from India, exporting to over 20 countries. Under Vivek’s leadership, the company operations expanded, with a focus on quality control and cost-effective production. Chemshel’s success has also contributed to the local community, supporting over 2500 tribal families in the Chota Nagpur region by procuring LAC from them.
