Dr. V. G. Patel National Memorial Award for Entrepreneurship Trainer/ Educator/Mentor

In 2020, EDII instituted Dr. V. G. Patel National Memorial Award for Entrepreneurship Trainer/Educator/Mentor to honour the late legendary, Dr. V. G. Patel who emphasized on the significance of instituting a cadre of entrepreneur trainer-motivators to sustain the entrepreneurship movement.  Dr Patel hailed this cadre of professionals as the backbone of the entrepreneurship development movement. This National Award recognises the outstanding contribution of a trainer/educator/mentor in propagating innovations and technology driven new enterprises. Applications for the award are received from across India. To arrive at the final decision, the high-level Award Committee, which has been constituted, follows a three-tier selection process based on critical evaluation parameters and personal interview.  The award comprises a citation and cash prize.

2020

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Mishra, Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, IIT (BHU) and Secretary & Coordinator, Malviya Centre of Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship, IIT(BHU) Varanasi

Dr. Mishra started his career as an entrepreneur trainer-motivator in 1997. His career spanning 23 years is replete with noteworthy interventions in the areas of innovation, incubation and entrepreneurship. Dr. Mishra is credited with establishing the first incubator in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states. This was established at Benaras Hindu University. Out of the individuals he has trained and mentored, nearly 50 % of them have set up their enterprises.

Dr. Farahanaz Rasool, Deputy Director Extension Trainings, Directorate of Extension, Sher-e –Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Srinagar

Dr. Rasool, passionate about entrepreneurship and innovations, commenced her career as an entrepreneur trainer-motivator in 2003. Despite political turmoil and grave limitations in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Rasool put up a brave front and continued imparting training and orientation to people to ensure setting up of more and more enterprises. In addition to training and mentoring potential entrepreneurs and unemployed youths, Dr. Rasool’s contribution towards imparting entrepreneurial exposure to farmers is creditworthy. Dr. Rasool’s contribution is laudable for, she has ensured training and new enterprise creation amidst adversities and constraints.

2021

Mr. Sunil Chandak, President, Udyogwardini Shiksha Sansthan, Nashik, Maharashtra

Mr. Chandak has devoted 36 years to ensuring entrepreneurship development in society across target groups, including women, disadvantaged communities, SCs/STs, VRS employees, socially & economically deprived sections, technologists, and many others. Some of his notable accomplishments include; creation of 2 Women Industrial zones in MIDC in Nashik. Maharashtra. (67 ladies have established their ventures), Women Industrial Premises Society in MIDC in Nashik. Maharashtra.  (Where 16 ladies have started their ventures) and Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nashik (WEAN).  Mr. Chandak has also promoted more than 1500 Agropreneurs for which the ‘Govt of Maharashtra’ recognized him with “Shetimitra” award.

Dr. Venkatesh Babu, Dean , Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research

Dr. Babu, who hails from a humble background, has successfully nurtured entrepreneurship excellence in academics. He has trained 258 trainees and has ensured creation of 156 enterprises. He has also secured a commendable incidence of enterprise  creation in the science and technology domain. He worked towards enhancing the quality of technical education in India, set up the Bharath Technology Business Incubator with DST’s support, contributed to the formulation of the draft Outcome Based Accreditation regulations of the National Board of Accreditation instrumental in making India, a full signatory of the prestigious Washington Accord.

2022

Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar, CEO, KIIT-Technology Business Incubator, Bhubaneswar

Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar, CEO, KIIT-Technology Business Incubator, Bhubaneswar is an enterprising professor with a strong passion for promoting startup culture in the country. He established KIIT Technology Business incubator in 2009 at KIIT University which is recognized as the Centre of Excellence by DST, Govt. of India. Under his leadership as the CEO of KIITTBI, 280+ startups have been nurtured, creating 4500+ jobs, and having raised more than 1400+ Cr private equity funds. He has promoted more than 20 rural manufacturing clusters. He has mentored more than 15 startups from the NE regions as well. Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) to the Govt. of India invited him to lead the Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster, a flagship programme of the Prime Minister Science, technology and innovation advisory council.

He is currently leading the Female Entrepreneurship Program (ENPRENDIA), a consortium project of five European countries and India funded by Erasmus+ program of EU. Similarly, as the coordinator of Regional Startup Network (RSN), funded by US Consulate, he is focused on promoting cross border partnerships to nurture 50 startups from India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

2023

Dr. Satyajit Majumdar, Professor and Dean, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai

Dr. Satyajit Majumdar is a leading expert on entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. He is the dean of the School of Management and Labour Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, India.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Majumdar has played an important role in the development of entrepreneurship, especially in the social sector. He has mentored more than 350 startups, including 40 in Jammu and Kashmir and group startups in Jhabua, West Bengal. He has also helped to build an ecosystem for entrepreneurship at TISS, including the establishment of a separate entrepreneurship cell in 2012.

2024

Dr. Dipak Uttamrao Tatpuje, Founder and Research Advisor, Vidyadeep Foundation, Satara, Maharashtra 

Prof. Dr. Dipak Tatpuje has over 40 years of experience in the field of entrepreneurial education & training, project consulting, and research projects at national and international levels. He completed more than 17 projects with national and international organizations like UNESCO-Bangkok, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Commonwealth Association of Science, Technology, and Mathematics Educators (CASTME-Asia), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. He founded VidyaDeep Foundation in November 2004.  He is also a serial social entrepreneur who founded two Satara based NGOs and two credit cooperative societies to help the first generation of entrepreneurs during 1990 to 2010.  Dr. Tatpuje is Google Certified Innovator, Microsoft Innovative Educator-Trainer, Google Applied Skills Ambassador, & Expert advisor of the UNESCO Inclusive Policy Lab & is associated with UNOSSC, Miller Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, TREC-STEP, and other organisations.  Dr. Tatpuje has developed a number of technology integrated learning materials funded by international organizations with his expertise in educational technology and instructional design. Also an author, a columnist, Dr. Tatpuje is reciepient of prestigious awards.

Dr. Lakshman has Harvard certification in Innovation & Design Thinking. She has designed Courses and executed across Karnataka. Recipient of 7 Design Patents and 1 copyright grant, she has also created 5 Centers of Excellence inside the BNMIT campus and has adopted a village to inculcate design thinking with social concerns.

Rajasthan Patrika

EDII and Rajasthan Patrika have entered into a collaboration to jointly organize Entrepreneurship Development Programmes for emerging women entrepreneurs. Against the backdrop that entrepreneurship is the need-of-the-hour, especially among the women community, the two organizations have joined hands to institute meaningful, outcome-based programmes and bring the results and interventions before the society at large to earn a winning response for the development tool of entrepreneurship.

Dr. V.G.Patel Memorial Lecture Series

EDII lost its founder Padma Shri Dr. V.G. Patel on April 4, 2019. To commemorate Dr. Patel’s great work in the field of entrepreneurship, the Institute started the annual lecture series in 2019. Recognised by the entrepreneurship fraternity as the ‘Pioneer of Entrepreneurship Movement,’ Dr. V.G. Patel devoted his life to propagate entrepreneurship within India and globally.
