Manjula B., from Ujjanakunte Village, demonstrates how determination and training can lead to successful entrepreneurship. Manjula B. has combined her education and rural roots and successfully transitioned into eco-friendly entrepreneurship. In October, she participated in a 16-day Micro Skill Development Programme (MSDP) conducted by EDII, at Thavarekere. This training, coupled with her UDYAM registration, exposed her to the potential of the eco-friendly market. She learned jute product manufacturing, from bags to home decor, and gained crucial business skills like financial management and marketing, which gave her the confidence to start her venture.

Motivated and armed with skills, Manjula started creating jute products from home. A small loan from her self-help group, sponsored by Canara Bank, allowed her to invest in materials and equipment. She began with simple items like shopping bags, and her attention to detail quickly set her products apart. While initially facing challenges from convincing local buyers to adopting eco-friendly products for managing limited resources. However, her persistence paid off with a bulk order from a local school and Sanjeevini Masika Santhe. This marked a turning point, boosting her confidence and attracting more orders.

Today, Manjula’s product range includes shopping bags, office folders, home decor, and gift bags. Her eco-friendly business has brought her recognition and promoted sustainable living in her community. She plans to participate in trade fairs and explore online platforms to expand her reach. Manjula’s journey showcases the transformative power of training and a strong will. “The EDII training was a game-changer,” she says. “It gave me the tools and confidence to turn my ideas into reality. Now, I want to inspire other women to become entrepreneurs.”
