Naresh Naik from Mailiguda in Kashipur Block, Odisha, grew up in modest, low-income farming family. Despite being a college graduate with aspirations for higher studies and a high-paying job, his dreams were shattered when he lost his father. As the elder son of the family, Naresh took the onus of all familial responsibilities. He worked at a nearby CSC centre as co-staff. His dedication to learning and willingness to take calculated risks goaded him on to higher-order achievements.

Having heard about EDII’s Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme under Project Udyamee, Naresh enrolled for it in the hope of brighter prospects and a new direction. The Programme raised his entrepreneurial awareness. He learnt about enterprise creation, business opportunity identification, fund mobilization, management, marketing and other critical aspects.

Naresh identified the business opportunity of establishing a Common Service Centre (CSC) in Tikiri market, in his village. The presence of banks and other government institutions in the area created a local demand for such service. However, Naresh faced several challenges in the initial days. The remote location led to frequent power cuts disrupting operations, credit-based business model resulting in losses due to defaulters. Naresh, however, remained committed and focused. Over time, his persistence paid off; he strategically shot trouble one after the other and as he achieved consistent growth in income year after year.

Naresh invested 1.5 lakhs which included the rental shop, advanced printer, computer, necessary interiors. His contribution was ₹1,32,000 and he had  received seed funding form Udyamee of ₹18000.

A satisfied entrepreneur, Mahesh looks forward to diversifying by expanding his services. He looks forward to installing advanced heavy-duty scanning and printing machines to deliver fast and high-volume services. He plans to attract more government orders, cater to diverse areas of industries and expand his workforce, thus generating more employment.
