Kalavathi, a resilient single mother, faced immense challenges when her husband passed away. Previously, she was a housewife, suddenly after his husband’s death, the responsibility of supporting the household fell on her shoulders. Working as an agricultural laborer, she earned Rs. 5,000 monthly.
A turning point came when Kalavathi learned about an awareness programme on Micro Skillpreneurship Training conducted by EDII. Recognizing an opportunity for a better future, she decided to attend the programme. This programme equipped her with the stitching and tailoring skills and also provided knowledge on business management, resource arrangement, legal compliance and registration, product development, and marketing strategies.
Chikkaballapur’s growing demand for emerging fashion trends, driven by its population of working professionals, students, and event-attendee. Kalavathi identified opportunities and established her enterprise, focusing on high-quality work, unique designs, and stylish creation. Starting with a Rs. 60,000 investment from a CIF (Community Investment Fund), her business flourished. From earning Rs. 5000 per month in the initial days as a laborer, now her annual income reaches Rs. 4 Lakh. Financially independent, Kalavathi has become an inspiration to other women in her region. She now plans to establish another unit in Chikkaballapur town, focusing on ready-made garments.
