Dilip Kudecha, a young weaver entrepreneur from Bhujodi, nurtured his passion for weaving from a young age and learned the craft using his toy loom. When he was in the eighth standard, he would practice on the family loom. Despite his father’s desire for further studies post his B.Com., but he was more passionate about weaving. Dilip transitioned from part-time to full-time weaving. He joined EDII’s HandMade in India (HMI) project in 2020 when he decided to pursue weaving full-time. Dilip was eager to learn and developed his skills even more through the HMI training.
The HMI training significantly enhanced his skills, enabling him and his father to create a new collection of garments and home textiles, experimented with new yarn provided by HMI Bhuj team. His father was also a weaver and they already had two-family looms on which he worked and supported his family. After receiving training from EDII, he purchased one more loom, invested 2.5 lakhs, and expanded the business.
Dilip explored new designs and colors in Natural dyes with the help of the HMI Bhuj team. The team also helped him in creating a unique garment collection which was showcased at a fashion show in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The same collection was sent to India International Grand Trade Fair (IIGTF) Kolkata, achieving sale of Rs. 3,20,000.
Dilip’s journey from a passionate weaver to a successful entrepreneur showcases his dedication and hard work. He will always inspire and uplift the weaving community of Bhujodi.
