Gowhar Lateef Khan hails from Dawalatabad, Kashmir, dreamed of sharing authentic Kashmiri flavours with the world, especially to tourists. His wife, Summy Jan, is a member of the Khan Self-Help Group (SHG), which became a gateway for his entrepreneurial journey. Summy Jan learned about the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) through her SHG, and the couple connected with Community Resource Person for Enterprise Promotion (CRP-EP) Suhail Maqbool Itoo, who introduced them to SVEP’s benefits and encouraged Gowhar to pursue Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training.
Gowhar identified a niche in promoting authentic Kashmiri products like saffron-infused Kahwa tea and Rogan Josh paste to tourists, aiming to make these products synonymous with the Kashmiri experience. Initially, limited financial resources and market knowledge hindered his vision. Through SVEP support and training changed everything. With a total investment of ₹1,25,000, he purchased ingredients and enhanced production capacity.
The EDP training provided invaluable insights into market trends, product positioning, and customer preferences, enabling Gowhar to run his business more effectively. He envisions further growth for his ‘South Kashmir Safalta Agro Foods’by expanding his product range and enhancing packaging to appeal to a wider audience. His commitment to quality ensures his products remain a trusted among tourists and locals alike.
