Daxaben, from a rural tribal community, has found a livelihood through an intricate craft that helps preserve her cultural heritage. Mobilized and sensitized by the district team, she received consistent support and guidance through EDTP and domain-specific training programmes, enabling her entrepreneurial journey.
Initially, this craft began as a hobby, but it soon became a crucial source of income, allowing her to support her family financially. The traditional artistry of handmade products served as a value addition, allowing her to earn extra income. However, she faced significant challenges, including difficulty accessing quality raw materials at affordable prices and a lack of working capital, which made it difficult to grow her business.
Due to the complexity of the craft, production costs are high, limiting it to a niche market. To overcome financial challenges, she financed her initial investment by borrowing from friends and family.
With the support of EDII, she gained GI tagging for the craft, which significantly boosting its recognition and value. Additionally, the mentoring support and market linkages provided to her opened doors to new opportunities, allowing her to expand her reach and access broader markets.
Looking to the future, she plans to explore contemporary markets and tap into untapped segments. She also envisions establishing a common facility centre to ensure consistent quality in production and further promote the craft.
