Pratikshya Srichandan’s story reflects the lives of innumerable rural women. She hails from tranquil village of Gadamatiapada, Odisha, sought self-reliance like many rural women and the ability to support her family and community. She contributes to her family financially through agricultural work and other opportunity-based business. Her journey began when she attended a Village-level Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP) organized by EDII. She was encouraged by the Sarpanch and EDII officials, enrolled in the Micro Skillpreneurship Development Programme (MSDP).
EDII launched a 26-day MSDP programme focusing on millet products because millet production is prominent in Kanas block, Puri. Pratikshya gained expertise in millet processing and learned to make various millet-based products like multi-millet atta, cookies, cakes, namkeen, and instant soup powder.
With an initial investment of Rs. 15000, Pratikshya started her business. EDII facilitated her to register her unit in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Udyam, obtain a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license and connecting her with financial institutions, markets, local shops, offices, weekly haat at Kanas and exhibitions for regular sales. Her business was also registered under WeAct for regular support. She participated in Vocal for Local Exhibition and State level Millet Mohotsav festival in Khordha.
Today, Pratikshya is a successful entrepreneur. Her products are regularly sold in local markets and contributing to her family’s well-being.
