Muskan Parveen, from a financially disadvantaged and marginalized family in Varanasi. Muskan had basic knowledge of the Zari Zardozi but lacked the technical expertise to create complete products, which prevented her from employment. During an awareness campaign organized as part of the Micro Skillpreneurship Development Training programme, she learned about EDII’s initiative. After completing the training equipped with new skills that boosted her confidence. She started her business in Zari Zardozi products, utilized Information and Communication Technology promotion, allowed her to connect with one such seller, starting to supply Zari Zardozi bags and thereby securing a reliable and sustainable source of income.

Initially, securing financial resources to start her business was a challenge; she sought support from a Self-Help Group (SHG) formed by EDII, which provided her with partial funding. Additionally, she also received advance payments from the vendor, helped her to overcome the financial constraints. EDII’s training was pivotal, honed her technical skills in Zari Zardozi and imparting managerial and financial knowledge.  She had an opportunity to showcase her expertise at a programme organized by Uttar Pradesh Institute of Design and Research (UPIDR), a sub-body of the Department of Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. Looking forward, she plans to acquire a stitching machine to enhance her Zari Zardozi products. While she currently supplies unstitched bags, but with the ability to provide stitched products will increase her earnings, improve market competitiveness. By incorporating value addition into her business, she aims to elevate her income and create more sustainable growth opportunities.
