Faculty Development Programme in Entrepreneurship

(For teachers involved or interested in Entrepreneurship Education)

There is a growing realisation that by motivating young technical students to take up an entrepreneurial career, their creative talents can be converted into productive resources. In order to achieve this, it is essential that entrepreneurial values be inculcated in them along with regular academic inputs. The most crucial agents, however, in the process of developing young entrepreneurs are teachers, trainers with adequate skills, knowledge and information in the area of entrepreneurship.

EDI's interaction with educationists and teachers in various fora revealed that there was a strong need for competent faculty in this applied area. Responding to the need, the Institute designed and has been implementing Faculty Development Programmes in Entrepreneurship, across the country. This residential programme is, therefore, targetted at teachers of vocational stream, Science & Technology (S&T) institutions, college and business schools, and aims at developing capabilities of teachers on entrepreneurship module and equipping them to carry out ED activities independently. The institute has been receiving enthusiastic response from educational community. To enrich it further a feedback study was done by the Institute on about 600 EDI trained teachers where nearly 85 per cent respondents suggested that this activity should be conducted regularly.

The major objectives of this programme are to :

• Equip the participants with requisite skills, knowledge and competencies for effective initiation of Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps and Entrepreneurship Orientation Courses in their colleges/ polytechnics.
• Expose the participants to the comprehensive entrepreneurship development process and equip them to coordinate/ organize entrepreneurship development related activities in their colleges/ polytechnics.
• Enable them to guide and counsel students towards an entrepreneurial career.
