Dear Aspirants,
Non-Government Organisations have, today expanded their boundaries beyond just the implementation of welfare schemes…. they contribute substantially to facilitating overall economical, social, cultural and political development. On a rough reckoning over 1,00,000 NGOs are operating in the country. Although it is a welcome state of affairs on the one hand, it is also a cause of concern on the other, as the immediate question that arises is are all NGOs suitably endowed with winning skills and traits?
Some of these are, however, well meaning and indeed shouldering higher responsibilities of effectively and efficiently planning their activities, establishing and maintaining linkages with all relevant players, executing various schemes, updating and maintaining records and handling public/government funds. But the need of the hour is that this skill base must be deep rooted across the NGO sector for tangible results.
While the spirit of volunteerism is important, what is perhaps of even greater significance is the art of good management, distinct professionalism in NGO functionaries and high standards of governance. Transparency, accountability, clarity of roles, effectiveness and self-monitoring will also keep inhibitions of external stakeholders at bay.
In order to, therefore, build organizational capacities of NGOs/VOs, EDI designed and launched a full-fledged one-year training programme, titled 'Post Graduate Diploma in Management of NGOs' in the year 1998. Till date 213 students have successfully completed this course and are serving the social development sector. The course curriculum has been designed in such a manner that it facilitates students to play a multifaceted role, i.e. of a Manager, a Trainer/Teacher, an Advisor or a Consultant/Counsellor in the organization. Recognizing the importance of qualified, trained and social-service driven professionals in an organization, many national and international NGOs have come forward to employ these EDI-trained students. I feel proud in putting on record that the institute has in the past offered 100 % placement to its students. The Institute has announced its 11th batch, and invites all aspirants who wish to build their career in the development sector, to join the course. I am sure, on successful completion of the course, you will be able to contribute significantly to the overall growth of the nation.
